Coach Jim Pelneau

Varsity Head Coach​

​

Coach Pelneau is a former graduate of Broadalbin-Perth, having played for the Patriots from 1996-1998 at Defensive End and Offensive Guard. In 1997, Coach Pelneau was a member of the Western Division Championship Team that ended the regular season undefeated. He was named to the Western Division and All Area All-Star Teams at Defensive End in both 1997 and 1998. Pelneau was selected to play in the Section 2 Senior All-Star Game in 1998. Pelneau still holds school records for the most sacks in a game (4), most sacks in a season (9) and most sacks in a career (21 ½).

Following his playing days for BP, Pelneau moved on to play college football at Hartwick College in Oneonta, NY from 1999-2002. He started at Defensive End for the Hawks for three seasons and is among the leaders in career records for tackles for a loss. From 2000-2002, Pelneau played in three straight ECAC Championship Bowl Games, winning in 2002. In 2002, he was a member of one the top defensive units in DIII. Pelneau ended his playing career in Louisville, KY, playing in the National Collegiate All-Star Bowl at Defensive End.

Following his playing career at Hartwick, Pelneau returned to Broadalbin-Perth as an assistant coach in 2003; coaching the Wide Receivers and Defensive Ends. From 2004-2005, he coached the Defensive Line and was JV Offensive Coordinator. In 2006, Pelneau become the Offensive Line Coach and Defensive Coordinator for the Patriots at the Varsity level. In 2005 and 2007, he coached the Defensive Ends in the Section II Senior All-Star Game. In 2011, Pelneau was named Head Varsity Coach at Broadalbin-Perth.

Pelneau graduated with his BA from Hartwick College in History and Masters Degree from The College of St. Rose in Education, Pelneau is currently a Social Studies Teacher at the high school. He currently resides in Perth with his wife, Tia.

 

 

Coach Vin Calderone

Varsity Assistant CoachOffensive Coordinator/Special Teams/Linebackers

 

Coach Calderone is a former graduate of Broadalbin-Perth, having played for the Patriots from 1996-1999 as a four-year varsity player starting at linebacker. At the end of the 1996 season, Calderone was named Defensive Player of the Year. In 1997, Coach Calderone was a member of the Western Division Championship Team that ended the regular season undefeated. He was named to the Western Division and All-Area All-Star teams at Linebacker from 1997-1999, and was a finalist for Player of the Year in 1998 and 1999. He was selected to play in the Section 2 Senior All-Star game in 1999. Calderone was named to the Class B All-State Team at Linebacker in the 1999 season and is a member of the Broadalbin-Perth Hall of Fame. Calderone had broken the previous rushing record for most yards in a season in 1998. He still holds records for most tackles in a game (24 total, 17 solo, 7 assisted), most tackles in a season (108 total), most tackles in a career (359 total).

Following his playing career, Calderone returned to BP as an assistant coach in 2001-2002 working with the Linebackers and Running Backs. Calderone also was the JV Defensive Coordinator in 2002. After returning from SUNY Brockport, he became an assistant coach at BP in 2006 coaching linebackers and running backs. He also was the JV Offensive Coordinator from 2006-2010. In 2011, Calderone became the Varsity Offensive Coordinator and head of Special Teams. In addition to coaching football, Calderone serves as an assistant Track and Field coach under Jeff Richards. Coach Calderone has coached the sprint and hurdle events from 2007-Present. In 2007, he served as a coach that captured the Girls Section II Class B Championship.

Calderone graduated from SUNY Brockport with a BA in Physical Education and Masters Degree from SUNY Cortland in Physical Education. Calderone is currently a Physical Education Teacher at the Broadalbin-Perth Intermediate School. Calderone currently lives in Broadalbin with his wife, Mary, and daughter, Bailee.

 

 

Coach Tom McGivern

Varsity Assistant Coach

 

Coach McGivern joined the Broadalbin-Perth coaching staff as an assistant coach in 1997. Coach McGivern has worked with all levels of the football program as a defensive line coach, offensive line coach, Modified Defensive Coordinator and JV Defensive Coordinator. He also has been the track and field throwing coach since 1999 and was the Head Coach of the Indoor Track and Field team in 2008 and 2009. Coach McGivern played high school football at Johnstown High School and during that time he was named to the All Area Gazette Team as a defensive end in 1969. He also participated in basketball and track and field while at Johnstown. Following his graduation in 1970, Coach McGivern moved on to play college football at Saint Joseph’s College in Indiana, winning the Indiana Collegiate Conference Championship. Coach McGivern also played in the semi-pro league with the Glove Cities Colonials from 1970-1976. Following his playing career, McGivern worked as an administrator for the Glove City Colonials and Johnstown Little League. In 1992, McGivern was inducted into the Glove City Hall of Fame for his years with the Colonials.

McGivern lives in Johnstown with his wife, Catherine, and has two sons, Michael (teacher/coach in Springfield, MA) and Matthew (works at Kennyetto Graphics). McGivern currently works at the high school as the In-School Suspension Coordinator.

 

 

Coach Tucker Gifford

Vasrsity Assistant Coach

 

Coach Gifford has been an assistant with the BP Football program for the past 9 years. Coach Gifford has coached the JV offensive and defensive lines, the Varsity defensive line and Modified offensive and defensive lines. Coach Gifford also was the JV Defensive Coordinator from 2004-2007 and the Modified Defensive Coordinator from 2008-2010. Currently Coach Gifford is in charge of the Varsity defensive line and Scout Team Coordinator. Coach Gifford played semi-pro football with both the Glove Cities Colonials and Amsterdam Zeyphers on the defensive line. Coach Gifford is also the Head Varsity Basketball Coach.

Coach Gifford graduated from Northville High School where he played soccer and basketball. He moved on to play at SUNY Plattsburgh and graduated with a degree in Physical Education and Health. He is currently a Physical Education teacher at the high school. Coach Gifford resides in Northville with his wife, Christiane, and two daughters, Taylor and Addison.

 

 

Coach Tim Cornell

JV Offensive Coach

 

Coach Cornell joined the Broadalbin-Perth coaching staff in 2011 as an assistant coach working with the linebackers and wide receivers and Modified team. Coach Cornell played running back and linebacker at BP from 2002-2003. In 2003, Coach Cornell was a team captain and was the punt and kick returner. Coach Cornell graduated from BP in 2004 and moved on to SUNY Cortland graduating with a degree in Physical Education. He is currently working on his Masters degree. In addition to coaching football, Coach Cornell has coached indoor track and field as well.  He currently resides in Perth with his wife, Becky, and son, Aiden.

 

 

Coach Kyle Zoller

JV Defensive Coordinator

 

Coach Zoller joined the Broadalbin-Perth coaching staff in 2008. Coach Zoller has coached wide receivers, offensive line, linebackers while at BP. Currently, Coach Zoller is the Modified Defensive Coordinator and offensive line coach. Prior to joining the BP coaching staff, Coach Zoller played semi-pro football with the Amsterdam Zephyrs as a defensive tackle. Coach Zoller also has served as an assistant baseball coach and currently still serves as the Modified Basketball Coach for the past 5 years.

Coach Zoller graduated from Fort Plain where he was as three sport athlete in soccer, basketball, and baseball. Coach Zoller graduated from SUNY Plattsburgh with a BA in History and received his Masters Degree from Florida State University in Education. Coach Zoller currently resides in Ballston Spa with his wife, Lindsay, and is currently working in the middle school at BP.

 

 

Coach Shawn Cotter

Modified Offensive Coordinator

 

Coach Cotter has been with the Broadalbin-Perth Football program for the past 11 years. Coach Cotter has worked with many different positions including wide receivers, quarterbacks, running backs and defensive backs. Coach Cotter has been the Modified Offensive Coordinator since arriving at BP. Coach Cotter also coaches the Modified quarterbacks and defensive backs as well. In addition to coaching football, Coach Cotter also served as an assistant baseball coach for 10 years before ending his baseball coaching career in 2009.

Coach Cotter graduated from Fonda-Fultonville High School, where he played football/baseball. He played two years of baseball at FMCC before graduating from SUNY Cortland with a degree in Physical Education. Coach Cotter currently works as a Physical Education Teacher in the Middle School and resides in Johnstown with his wife, Cory, and two sons, Colin and Brady.

 

 

Coach Jason Kruger

Modified Defensive Coordinator

 

Coach Kruger played on the Section II championship team at FFCS in 1999.  As a Junior and Senior, he was an all league defensive end, first team Recorder and Leader Herald. As a Senior, he was third team all state and captain on a team that went 8-1. He played in the Section II all star game where his claim to fame was running RJ Harvey down from behind.

After high school, Coach Kruger went on to play defensive end at UAlbany for one year.  He has volunteered at FFCS as a JV coach in 2005 and 2006. Currently, he works as a Social Studies Teacher in the Middle School, and resides in Rotterdam with his wife, Meredith.  

 

 

Coach Mike Beers

Modified Assistant

 

Coach Beers played for Broadalbin-Perth Basketball and received a full scholarship to Siena College in the early 2000s.  Currently, he is a T.A. in the middle school and JV Basketball coach at BP.  In the 2015 season, he joined the Football staff to coach the wide receivers and defensive backs.  

 

Coach Rick Wallace

Modified Assistant Volunteer

 

Coach Wallace is a 2015 BP graduate who played for the Patriots  throughout his high school career.  He was a 2014 first team all-star in both offensive and defensive lines.  He is currently taking courses towards an education degree and will work with the modified offensive and defensive lines in the upcoming season.
